That drum was a Nagado-daiko, which is a type of Wadaiko. Wadaiko is a general term for Japanese drums. He grew up a little and joined a local club of Jin-daiko. Jin-daiko was a performance of Wadaiko to encourage the morale of soldiers. Today, they entertain people at rituals and festivals.
